Skills

Generally speaking, most skills from the System Reference Document are permitted to characters when they are created. Any skill taken at creation is considered to be trained for that character, and a player can assign more ranks to that skill when taking the character up a level. All other skills are considered untrained.

Skill training is generally considered to take ninety time units for a skill that cannot be used untrained, and thirty otherwise. Skill training can be done concurrently, though the trainers must coordinate their efforts.

Some skills require individual notes.

Craft

These skills allow characters to craft any normal, mundane items provided they have access to the appropriate workshop.

Craft skills can only be chosen from those approved by the gamemaster overseeing character creation. Usually all of the craft options listed in the core rules will be available, but sometimes this list is customized.

Depending on circumstances in the plotline PCs may have an opportunity to spend time units to earn money by practicing their craft. If your GM gives you such an opportunity at the end of a scenario the results are as per the core rules unless the GM rules otherwise.

Knowledge

All of the knowledge skills in the core rules are available. Some of them, such as Arcana and Dungeoneering, will be unusual and will require an appropriate background to explain why the character has learned these things. Since Midwrathe is a role-playing encouraged campaign it makes sense to take knowledge skills relating to the character's background and social standing.

Knowledge (Arcana) is sometimes called Knowledge (Hearth Lore). Knowledge (The Planes) is sometimes called Knowledge (Spirit World) or Knowledge (Portals).

Sometimes even with a high role a gamemaster might determine that a given character simply has not had access to a particular piece of information, particularly when it relates to information not normally found in Midwrathe. Conversely, gamemasters might decide that a particular piece of information is available at a lower DC because of a character's specific training and experience.

Knowledge (Local) is a class skill for many characters throughout Midwrathe who wouldn't normally have it as a class skill. Interested players should check with their gamemaster.

Psicraft and Spellcraft

These are very unusual skills, and any players taking one or both of them must consult with their gamemaster.

Literacy

All classes are considered to be illiterate, as per the core barbarian class (see p. 25 of the PHB). This means that anyone can spend two skill points to become literate, in which case they can read and write all of the languages that have written forms. Most Midwrathe characters are illiterate, so literate characters should have a good reason for their literacy included in their backstory.

Profession

Profession skills can only be selected from those permitted by the gamemaster overseeing the character's creation. Generally speaking, profressions from the core rules will be available, but this list may be customized depending on circumstances. Opportunities may arise for PCs to practice their profession and generate earnings. The GM will inform the PCs of such opportunities, which unless otherwise stated will follow the rules presented in the core rules.
