An'orheen - Builder DwarfsA Note on TerminologyLong ago, a race known to modern Midwrathian scholars as the Lexigraphers ruled over vast parts of the world. They were masters of the arcane arts and excelled at experimentation and radical applications of their knowledge to technological challenges. Little is known of them, but clearly they were also scholars of genetic manipulation since they created several races of beings known collectively as the an'hemron. The people are sometimes called "dwarfs" by certain humans, but this is not a name they apply to themselves. The an'orheen, or "emerald dwarfs", are detailed here. Cultural BackgroundAround 2000 years ago the an'orheen and Huani built a lasting and steady civilization along the western shores of the Tyrrarian Sea. The capital was the splendid city of Yen Enoth. They pushed steadily inland and up-river eventually spilling into the Lake District (present day Duchy of Almeryss) and the Sard River Basin (Beldan and Maldan) building river forts and trading posts to engage in commerce with the native demi-human and human tribes. A large settlement was built on the along the Carnelian Estuary at the mouth of the Sard River (present site of Renoga). Over time the river forts and trading posts prospered and became a chain of a quasi-republic of semi-independent city-states more or less owing allegiance to the city of Yen Enoth. The Huani were very spiritual; the an'orheen were not but adopted Huani ways. Craftsmanship (especially masonry), commerce, law, and trade were important to the An'orhee-Huan culture. With the rise of the Rhy-Kanna and their very aggressive empire-building, and the fact that they were so much better at it, the An'orhee-Huan culture became quickly overrun. Renoga was one of the last independent city-states, and by the time the Skoja got around to sacking it (~600 years ago) most of its commerce was geared toward paying tribute to the Empire. SpecificsAn'hemron don't use arcane magic. They cannot be bards, or wizards, or sorcerers, or anything else that channels arcane power. As rogues they cannot even activate arcane magic items. The an'hemron have no gods. Some scholars believe that the ancient an'hemron worshipped the lexigraphers as gods, but evidence is inconclusive. Individual an'hemron of a particular sub-race are nearly identical. A male and a female An'orheen are different in that their primary and secondary sexual characteristics distinguish them, but they are roughly the same height and weight. Two male an'orheen are practically identical. To compensate they have developed a complex system of body paint, tattoos, and personal garb. An'orheen are about 4 feet tall, sturdy, with strong but dexterous fingers. They are nearly hairless with dark green skin and opaline gray eyes. An'orheen are derogatorily referred to as "pukes".
