Scenario Creation GuidelinesScenarios that are run multiple times can give out up to 250 experience points. All experience rewards are doubled for first-level characters. Scenario authors can set modules in either their own region or in a place that has been designated as usable by anyone (such as Renoga, the capital of the county). If the intent is for other game masters to be able to run the scenario then only the public areas should be used. Party strength can vary a great deal in Portals of Midwrathe. A group of four commoners will be significantly less powerful in battle than a group of four fighters. This can be dealt with in various ways, but should be kept in mind while balancing encounters. Make sure that what you're writing fits with the world of Midwrathe as we know it. For instance, the County of Maldan has no known Halfling villages; setting a scenario in one would therefore be inconsistent with the setting. Keep the various races and species of Midwrathe in mind, and clear anything new with the campaign director. Campaign-wide plots should not be resolved without the involvement of the campaign director. For instance, the Ever Winter plotline is currently proceeding in all regions. There is a plan for how this story will unfold, and authors may not simply take the plot in their own directions without permission. Creating your own region should involve making something no larger than a village. Determine its approximate location on the map of the county of Maldan, and work out its economy, politics, history, and so forth. Make sure that what you create is consistent with what has already been written about Midwrathe. Once you have a good feel for your village you can post it for approval. The campaign director and other participants in the campaign will read your submission and give you some feedback. If there are elements of your new region that you'd like kept secret then you can discuss those via e-mail with the campaign director. Once your region is finalized you can start running games there for players who already have characters from another region. Keep in mind that the first time a character travels someplace the journey must be played out, and also that no game master can run games in someone else's region. This means that the characters will first have to travel to a publicly usable location (such as the capital of the county, Renoga) while gaming with their home region's game master and then you'll need to take them from there to your village. Adventures run in your home region do not need to be approved by the campaign director unless they have implications reaching beyond your borders. Another option available to you is to create a document providing guidelines for players who wish to create characters from your region. This document must be approved by the campaign director. You may create this document from scratch or simply take one from one of the existing regions and edit it. Sometimes a gamemaster may want to reward the players with something special. Special items should be tracked on a certificate signed and dated by the gamemaster and given to the player.
